For when life hurst too much not to change.

I'm Jennifer Frary (she/her). I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of New York.  My private practice is an extension of my work in a variety of helping areas:

substance use disorder, depression and anxiety, mental health concerns, ADDICTIVE BEHAVIORS, codependency, and relationship difficulties.

Most people seek counseling because they recognize that they need some help in being able to face a certain challenge - or they find themselves stuck in a particular dilemma.  The counseling process is designed to help individuals resolve their problems with some assistance.  The process involves your active involvement as well as personal efforts to understand your thoughts, feelings & behaviors.   I learned from a supervisor an easy way to know the difference between counseling and therapy (though you can absolutely do both in sessions):  counseling teaches new skills to address current problems, while therapy digs into the reasons for your pain and then works to establish new foundations of thinking and behaving.
